Marie Claire UK launches Sustainability Awards
Marie Claire UK, flagship women’s lifestyle brand from Future plc, today announces the winners in its inaugural Sustainability Awards.
The awards recognise the world’s most radically sustainable brands across fashion, beauty, food and drink, travel and leisure, motors, health and wellness and homes industries in over 60 categories, helping our audience to shop smarter and buy better across the board.
Categories included beauty, fashion, health & wellness, home, motors, food & drink and travel & leisure. Winners came from every level – from emerging businesses, niche brands and industry leading companies.
Judged by a trailblazing judging panel of over 40 of the world’s leading experts and thought leaders in sustainability, the awards brought together multiple industries to truly show the positive impact that different types of brands and businesses can have.
Andrea Thompson, editor in chief said: ‘Today marks an exciting stage in our history as a brand that has always championed purpose and put sustainability and women’s empowerment at the forefront of what we do.
“As we approach COP26 in November, the values we stand for have never been more important. Following the pandemic – and the enforced pause from consumption – people across the planet are re-evaluating the way they live, work and spend. These awards are about recognising the brands taking steps towards limiting their environmental impact and also empowering our audience to make more sustainable choices.’
The event follows the launch of a dedicated Sustainability channel on site, which has seen traffic grow 351% YOY and the Marie Claire Sustainability Festival in March, continuing Future’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Judges included Ingrid Newkirk (Founder, PETA), Amy Nelson-Bennett (Managing Director, Positive Luxury), Myriam Sidibe (Chief Mission Officer, Brands on a Mission), Ella Roberston McKay (Managing Director, One Young World) and Noëlla Coursaris Musunka (Founder and CEO, Malaika).
In partnership with Nula Carbon, Marie Claire will be measuring the carbon footprint of the virtual ceremony and offsetting carbon emissions, as well as planting a mangrove tree for every attendee to the virtual event, to ensure the awards and carbon neutral.
